Do you know that fear feeds itself? It’s true. Fear is contagious and viral. Even one teeny drop of Fear will beget several negative emotions: worry, mistrust, insecurity, and so on. Fear’s offspring look a little different from one another, but all have the same DNA. Fear tries to pose as truth by weaving all kinds of negative thoughts and feelings together to make a case for itself. Sometimes trying to get rid of Fear helps keep it alive because you keep focusing on it.
There are a few myths about Fear that need to be put to rest:
Myth #1 – Faith gets rid of Fear. Faith does not get rid of Fear. Faith is agreeing with something. You can have faith in a fearful thing. When you have faith in a fear, that faith can help it come to pass.
“What I feared has happened to me. What I dreaded has come true.” Job 3:25
Having faith that things will turn out right may make your fears subside a bit. Having faith that God will protect you will also minimize fears. But Fear is a spirit, not just a feeling. Just because it quiets down doesn’t mean it is gone. It can lay dormant for another time. Fear must be cast out.
Myth #2 – Courage will get rid of Fear. No. Courage is something that rises up in you to fight Fear, but it doesn’t get rid of it. You can have courage and still be afraid. In fact, Fear is usually the cause for courage to manifest. The most courageous acts of heroism happen in fearful situations.
How do you get rid of Fear?
1 John 4:18 has the answer: “…perfect love casts out fear.”
Perfect Love!
There it is! Fear cannot live and reproduce where Love is because Love casts it out!
1 John 4:16 “…God is love.”
LOVE is the opposite of Fear.
Fear moves you towards darkness. Love moves you towards light. Fear agrees with the enemy. Love agrees with God. Just as Fear reproduces, Love reproduces! Love perpetuates itself by giving itself away. Love begets love!
Fear can’t stand in the presence of Love. It is weaker.
Have No Fear!
